On 15 April 2026, within the framework of strengthening international cooperation and expanding bilateral relations, a delegation from the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland visited Tajik International University of Foreign Languages named after Sotim Ulughzoda, where a meeting was held with the Rector of the University, Professor Zhilo Gulnazarzoda.
The delegation included Her Excellency Ms Catherine Smithton, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom to the Republic of Tajikistan; Mr Chris Allan, Director for Eastern Europe and Central Asia; and Mr Umed Rahmonov, representative of the Embassy of the United Kingdom in the Republic of Tajikistan.
During the meeting, Professor Zhilo Gulnazarzoda warmly welcomed the guests and highlighted the constructive nature of cooperation between the Republic of Tajikistan and the United Kingdom in the fields of education and science. He also provided an overview of the University and its foreign language education system, with particular emphasis on English language teaching.
The meeting facilitated a comprehensive discussion of key areas of cooperation. In particular, the parties expressed strong interest in advancing collaboration in higher education, academic exchange, joint programme implementation, professional development of academic staff and specialists, as well as engagement with international partners.
In addition, issues related to the implementation of joint initiatives, including educational programmes, scientific events, and advisory activities, were discussed.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the University leadership presented the guests with commemorative gifts, including the English translation of the seminal work by the Founder of Peace and National Unity – Leader of the Nation, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, entitled “The Nation Language – The Nation Existence”
