The topic “Rabindranath Tagore and His Role in the Literary Relations between East and West” was discussed at an international conference

Today, on 23 December 2025, the Sotim Ulughzoda Tajik International University of Foreign Languages hosted an international scientific-practical conference entitled “Rabindranath Tagore and His Role in the Development of Literary Relations between East and West.”

The conference brought together the following participants: Rector of the University, Doctor of Philology, Professor Jilo Gulnazarzoda; Head of the National Centre of Tajiks of Surkhandarya Region of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor Ramazon Abdullayev; Doctor of Philology, Professor of the Department of Persian Language at the University of Delhi, Republic of India, Sunita Kumari; Doctor of Philology, Professor and Head of the Department of Tajik Language and Literature at Dangara State University, Ozod Saidja’farov; Doctor of Philology, Professor at Lomonosov Moscow State University, Maryambi Nurova; and Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Tajik Philology and Eastern Languages at Termez State University of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Makhfirat Kurbonalieva. The participants joined both in person and online.

Opening the conference, Rector Professor Jilo Gulnazarzoda warmly welcomed the guests and highlighted the scholarly and literary significance of the event. She noted that, thanks to the wise, enlightened and forward-looking policy of the Leader of the Nation, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, cooperation and multifaceted relations among scholars and researchers are steadily expanding. In this context, the organization of an international scientific-practical conference dedicated to the outstanding contribution and role of the great thinker and writer Rabindranath Tagore in strengthening literary relations between East and West acquires particular importance.

The study and research of the rich heritage of this Persian-speaking writer of India is significant not only for the Tajik people, but for all humanity. His immortal works, created in the spirit of service to humankind, form an integral part of the treasury of world literature.

Further, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor and Head of the National Centre of Tajiks of Surkhandarya Region of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Ramazon Abdullayev, delivered an insightful presentation entitled “Amir Mu‘izzi — a Successor of the Tradition of Tatabbu‘ Poetry.” Doctor of Philological Sciences, Professor and Head of the Department of Tajik Language and Literature at Dangara State University, Ozod Saidja’farov, presented a paper on “The Role of the Persian Language and Literature in Mughal India in the 16th–17th Centuries.” In their talks, the speakers gave detailed accounts of the literary legacy of Amir Mu‘izzi and the role of the Persian language during the Mughal period in India.

Doctor of Philology, Professor of the Department of Persian Language at the University of Delhi, Republic of India, Sunita Kumari, presented her paper remotely on the topic “A Comparative Analysis of the Mystical Poetry of Hafez and the Humanism of Tagore.” Doctor of Philology, Professor at Lomonosov Moscow State University, Maryambi Nurova, also participated online, presenting her paper entitled “Rabindranath Tagore’s Ideas on the Transformation of the Education System in India.”

In addition, a paper was presented by Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Tajik Philology and Eastern Languages at Termez State University of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Makhfirat Kurbonalieva, on the topic “The Tradition of Bilingualism in the Literary Relations of Tajiks and Uzbeks.”

At the conclusion of the conference, the administration of the Sotim Ulughzoda Tajik International University of Foreign Languages awarded certificates to the participants in recognition of their active involvement and valuable scholarly contributions.

Representatives of Termez State University of the Republic of Uzbekistan presented the university leadership with a collection of valuable books as a symbol of eternal friendship.
